Mum and Jon, BBQs, Heat, sickness, Jobs and Australia day and missing greenery

Well it's been a while, yes I am getting worse at this :p but hey ho.

We've been pretty busy, or at least it feels like we have.  Weekends are taken up by swimming and church and the last few weekends have been dominated by various family members coming down with gastroenteritis and the need to take Finley to A&E as he was severely dehydrated.  Poor lad, but it did give me a day off work looking after him and Anna and keeping Marcus amused.

We had a great few days with Mum and John, swimming in the Hyatt pool and a trip to the zoo.  It was a little hot for Marcus but we all enjoyed it and John saw Painted dogs for the first time so that was special for him.  We had a bewdiful (sorry the Australian pronunciation) meal at Fraisers, overlooking the city as night fell, watching all the lights come on and make everywhere sparkle.  Finley and Marcus had a great time at Wesu's.

We have been to some our friends from church for BBQs and it has been so nice to go to people who just accept you and welcome you with open arms and make you feel like you've been life long friends.  We need to get a BBQ to repay the favour.  tis on the list for a few months down the line, so we may do out first BBQ in winter (or summer if we stay on UK seasons!).

It has been scorching here the last few weeks.  so far we haven't had a day under 38'C for nearly two weeks and tomorrow will peak at 42'C, the hottest January day every in Perth is 42.9'C so we are at the warm end of things. Sunday will be cooler though so we may venture back to the beach late afternoon and have a cooling dip in the sea.  The nights are the worst though, the bedrooms don't drop below high 20's all night so Anna has taken to sleeping the lounge with the AC on and the boys go to bed with wet T-towels on them which we re-wet a few hours later.  We are seriously thinking of trying to move to somewhere with better AC or that gets the sea breeze.  All in time though.

Anna has got a job, yeah, Go Anna, Go Anna.  Part time, three days a week at URS which so far she is enjoying.  Tis really nice to spend more time together, even if it is sat on a train or just sharing lunch together.  The boys are doing good at nursery and Marcus's vocab is really coming along nicely.  Oh they were both so excited the other day when i caught a baby lizard in our bedroom (i try to gloss over the fact he was in our room...)  which they both looked at waved goodbye when we released him in the garden.  Twas very proud and somewhat shocked at the fact i managed to catch it in the first place.  They are fast little buggers!!!

We have found a new place to shop where we can get fresh fruit and veg cheaper than the supermarket and get big joints of meat cheaply that we can cut down.  My butchery skills would have you either laughing or hanging your head in shame Dad.  Need to come home for some lessons.

Australia was fun, again we went to a church friend for a BBQ and played with their chickens and lounged around generally not doing much for several hours.  I was stumped when they asked me to sing the Ozzie national anthem...so i replied could they sing God Save the Queen, the national anthem of their motherland...the air turned blue fore a while, but much frivolity and fun was had.  Anna and I rounded off the day in typical British style, fish and chips (snapper in my case, which was lovely), ginger beer, sat outside under the porch watching the rain and lightening.  A good day all in all.

We have realised that one thing, other than Family and Friends, that we really miss is green.  Just the lush vegetation and rolling green hills and fields of home just aren't here, i know come winter it will be greener but nothing to compare with the green of spring and summer at home.  Watching something daft like grand designs and seeing the countryside makes me so home sick that i can't watch it.  Daft isn't it.  How can something that is taken for granted and generally gets you annoyed (it's green because it rains so much) make you feel so far away from home?

well i think thats all for the moment.  I will try and do better at this blogging thing.
